How Do I Get My Release Paper to Change Employer?

Your release paper is your employer's consent to transfer you to a new employer, and only your employer can give it. With We Are Caring, they sign it online in a few minutes. You can then find a new family in the We Are Caring Find Jobs app, and you pay nothing.

What is a release paper?

In Singapore, you can change employer only if your current employer agrees. "Release paper" is the name helpers use for that agreement. At We Are Caring, it is the consent to transfer, which your employer signs online. It gives your current salary, the dates you can transfer and the reason for the transfer.

How do I ask my employer?

  1. Talk with your employer kindly, and explain why you want to move.
  2. Give the notice in your contract.
  3. Ask them to sign the consent to transfer online. It takes a few minutes. They can also sign it at our office.

If your employer says no, ask them to call We Are Caring: we explain their options, and that a transfer is the simplest way for both of you.

What happens after they sign?

  1. We Are Caring contacts you to finish your profile in the We Are Caring Find Jobs app.
  2. Families contact you, and you can contact families. You choose your new employer.
  3. Your new employer applies for your work permit, with your current employer's consent.
  4. On the transfer date, your new work permit is issued, and the old one is cancelled automatically.

What you need for the transfer

  • A work permit valid for more than 30 days. If it expires sooner, your current employer can ask the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to extend it.
  • Your 6-monthly medical check-up, done before the application.
