What we do in Singapore

  1. Guide you through the differences. Employing a helper in Singapore works differently from Hong Kong: the levy, the security bond, insurance, rest days and the contract. We explain each rule before you commit, so there are no surprises. Ministry of Manpower (MOM) requirements
  2. Check her eligibility and yours before you plan dates.
  3. Prepare her employment contract and safety agreement, which you both sign online.
  4. Apply for her work permit with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), and arrange her maid insurance, including the security bond guarantee.
  5. Prepare her arrival: her medical check-up in Singapore and, if it is her first job as a domestic worker here, the Ministry's Settling-In Programme.

Who can relocate this way

  • Your helper: a woman aged 23 to under 50, from a source country or region approved by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM): Bangladesh, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan or Thailand, with at least 8 years of formal education.
  • You: you already need a FIN or NRIC in Singapore. An in-principle approval letter for an Employment Pass or a ONE Pass is also fine.

Before you leave Hong Kong

Hong Kong has its own rules when a helper's contract ends early. If her standard two-year contract ends before its term, the party ending it tells the other in writing. Both you and your helper then notify Hong Kong's Immigration Department within 7 days, with form ID 407E, a letter, or online at gov.hk/fdhtermination. She may stay in Hong Kong for up to two weeks after the contract ends. Our Hong Kong team helps you with the notice. Hong Kong Immigration Department
